Medicare and Cataract Eye Surgery
If you have Medicare, then it can help take care of a significant part of the expenses for your cataract eye surgery. Medicare considers Cataract surgery a necessary surgical procedure, and the procedure is covered under Medicare part B. Medicare will take care of 80% of the cost of surgery, and you are responsible for the co-payment (co-pay) of the other 20%, after meeting your annual deductible.
Patients that opt for multifocal, accommodating, or astigmatism correcting lens, are responsible for the additional costs associated with it.
Private Medical Insurance and Cataract Eye Surgery
Generally, patients with a private insurance can expect their health care service to pay for cataract surgery. The insurance plan will take care of traditional monofocal lens implants, but if you choose multifocal lens implants, the additional cost will be your responsibility.
